Welcome friends
Who are we?
We're guests to Northern Italy and locals from way back.
We spread vegemite on our toast and eat knödel for lunch.
You guessed it. We're an Australian-South Tyrolean family.
Our hearts lie on both sides of the globe but for now we call South Tyrol home.
What are you doing in Italy?
At the beginning of 2024, we took a giant leap of faith.
We sold all our possessions.
We hugged our friends and family in Australia goodbye.
We hopped on a plane with our two month old baby boy and three year old daughter and flew to our new home in the Italian Alps.
You're crazy, why would you do that?
Why does anyone do something so wild? For love and family. We migrated our young family to Andy's home town to be closer to the head of the Leiter family, Andy's mum.
There were other reasons too. The chance for our kids to grow up speaking German and Italian, and with luck the local dialect too. To fill their childhoods with mountains, forests and adventure. Just like my husband had growing up.
How's it going?
We are forging new connections with our family, learning new languages, exploring the outdoors on a daily basis and slowly turning the corner from I-don't-know-what-the-next-day-will-bring adventure to routine and stability.
It's sometimes scary. The costs of relocating and difficulty in finding secure work in our chosen professions are very real. Moving to another country, even with local support can be a humbling process.
We're still figuring a lot of things out, but we're grateful for the help we've had along the away from our friends and family, both old and new.
What's next?
Our adventures have inspired us to share this beautiful part of the world and our own story with others.
